The Sammy Burns family is a dear friend and our church pastor. He approached me last year with an idea to create a website for Grace Covenant Baptist Church. He wanted to make the website a place that provided detailed information on what the church believed, as well as a simple place for people to find directions and more.

I began using a very simple template with the idea that the website should portray a good balance between modern design and yet older and austere undertones. I decided to use a parchment effect for the header and footer, and also a canvas with clouds that I created as the background of the main body. I also implemented a great menu script and edited it to make it look closer to the feel of the website.

There was also the logo. A simple text logo was created using an astute font face with a vectorized leaf to symbolize the spiritual growth of the church members, among other things. The result seemed to mesh.

I also created and added a simple javascript slider to the index, as well as a few simple boxes highlighting the Worship Times, Directions, and Beliefs of the church. Outcome? A well balanced site of older looks mixed with a firm foundation of simplicity.
