Dr. Michael Patilla is an Associate Professor of Guitar at Mississippi State University. I first met Dr. Patilla after being interested in taking guitar several years ago.
He tutored me one day a week in classical guitar at the university, and I was amazed at how seamlessly he taught and played guitar. Dr. Patilla is truly a master of his craft. So, when he approached me in early 2011 with plans for a new branding idea for his website, I was beyond thrilled.
I chose to match the classical style of Dr. Patilla with a modern look and feel of a classical musician. I did a photo shoot on the campus of Mississippi State University and incorporated some of these images into the site. The grey undertones are matched with a modernistic orange for the media player and the menu links. The point was to add just enough color to make everything contemporary. An on-site audio player was installed to allow visitors to hear samples of Dr. Patilla’s album “Septiembre” before purchasing it through the store links on the page.
Since Dr. Patilla uses Twitter a lot, I placed a Twitter feed to appear on the homepage under the photo slider. The site on average attracts several hundred visitors a month.
